Tremolo Guitar Bridge
There are several different types of tremolo bridges available on guitars. Most popular is the Fender style spring powered bridge (pictured right). This bridge has a set of springs in the back, keeping it flush when only string pressure is applied to the bridge. By pressuring the whammy bar, the springs extend and the bridge pivots forward, loosening the pressure on the strings and detuning the strings.
Other common types of tremolo is the Bigsby and Floyd Rose. Both have unique advantages and disadvantages over the Fender style bridge.
